Air Travel/flying with an infant

QuestionHello,
I am flying alone with my 4-month-old daughter in my lap. We are flying from Phila. to Savanah GA with 1 stop over in Washington (1 hour). What are my options for my coach? I have a full size coach that folds up and would like to have it with me as much as possible. Also, what will be my problems with getting baby food thru security? I usually carry powdered formula and a bottle of water. Will I have to pre-mix? Or can I buy water after I pass through security? Any other advice you can offer would be great!!!
AnswerDear Heather,
Depending on the aircraft you will be flying its possible to accommodate it. Otherwise you will have to check-it and ask the airline to deliver it to the gate. It will help you and your baby during transit in Washington and on your final destination in Savannah.
As far as baby food is concern, below is a copy of TSA's policy 3-1-1: (from
http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm)
3𢴏 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.
- Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.
- Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.
- 3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.
- Declare larger liquids. Prescription medications, baby formula and milk are allowed in quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.
Some airlines double check the carry-on items before boarding the aircraft. At the gate, please contact an airline representative and ask him/her about buying water at shops located in the gate area.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
