Question
i am considering traveling to mexico in the next couple of weeks or months, i have been to Cancun 5 times and only needed my drivers license and birth cert. i do not have a passport. can i still use my license and birth cert or do i need to wait till i get a passport? also does this all apply on cruises internationally  or do i need a passport.?  thanks

Answer
Dear Michele,

Yes you will need a passport since the US Government issued The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) which was mandated by Congress in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 to strengthen border security and facilitate entry into the United States for citizens and legitimate international visitors. WHTI requirements for air travel took effect on January 23, 2007.
