Question
My flight to Paris leaves from Houston but the flight down to Houston is on a tiny plane and has over a 5 hour layover in Houston.  I want to skip that flight and drive to the airport in Houston but have heard they will cancel my whole reservation if I don't fly the first leg.  If I call Continental and say I can't make the first flight but WILL get to the plane to France, will they not let me do that?

Answer
Dear Margot,

You must contact reservations and tell them your plans. All will depend on how your ticket was issued, since you can face a penalty for the leg you did not intend to use.
Naturally they can't force you to fly this leg.
