Question
Is it best to book a flight with one airline and as few stops as possible to ensure my luggage arrives with me at my final destination?  There are flights with 2 to 3 stops and changes in airlines with as little as 45 minutes between flights, but obviously a lot cheaper. I don't want increase my risk of my luggage not arriving with me.  Does it make a difference?

Answer
Dear Shannon,

Let me refer to the saying "A Straight Line Is the Shortest Distance between Two Points" to answer you question.

The same applies here. If you can find flights at least with one stop or with a "online" (by online I mean no change of airline) or at least one connection with 1,5 hour, you will be fine.

As far as this 90 minutes connection, I am giving you this advice, because in 2007 from January to May one out of four flights in the US, were cancelled or delayed. So play safe.

Hope this helps.
If you need any additional information, please let me know.
Best Regards,
