Question Hi,
I was looking at a gun on the Internet and it says that it uses Red gas as a propellent. The gun is a ruger rifle. I don't know it is similar to Green gas or not. I would appreciate if you could give me some info on what Red gas is and if it is good for your guns or not.
Thanks Joe
Answer RED GAS:
Red Gas is a more powerful variant of Green Gas, the most common Airsoft gas gun propellent.(see green gas below)
Red Gas is also know as Freon22 and is commonly used to power Air Conditioners in the USA.
Airsoft guns must be rated for Red Gas or they can will not be able to handle the extra power and use of red gas. Use of Red Gas can damaged or break guns not designed to work with this more powerful gas.
However, guns that are made for use with red gas can be powered by green gas, the disadvantage being that green gas is less powerful and the gun will not shoot at its maximum FPS.
Advantages:
*More Powerful
*Higher Feet Per Second
*Faster Blow Back Action
Disadvantages:
*More Expensive
*Not Always Available
*Can Damage Non-Metal Guns
GREEN GAS:
Green Gas is the propellant typically used to drive Gas Blow Back Airsoft guns, consisting of propane with small amounts of silicone oil added. Some brands may advertise their product as Green Gas, or refer to it as "Ultra Green Gas", "Xtreme Green Gas" or similar, when in fact the propellant is not Green Gas/propane. Products advertised as being more powerful than Green Gas are typically Red Gas, correctly known as HCFC-22.
Green Gas is produced by Airsoft Manufacturers. Players in cooler climates prefer to use Green Gas because HFC134a is often insufficient to cycle guns in cooler temperatures. Green Gas should be used with caution as it may damage guns which are not designed to handle the extra power.
Since Green Gas propellant is propane, some airsofters are increasing the economy of consuming the propellant by using consumer available propane canisters originally used for fueling camping stoves, lanterns, and barbecues. To provide compatibility between the Airsoft Gas Blow Back guns and the propane canister outlet, a propane canister adaptor must be used.
