Question
We have a 8 year old female Akita we adopted from a shelter and she has a wonderful personality, so sweet, kind, smart and cuddly..Has all the traits of an Akita as far as being somewhat prey driven and alpha and attached to one owner and also very protective. She does not really get along with our 3, yes 3 cats, but she tolerates them and she LISTENS to us. She knows NO. We do not leave her alone with the cats ever, but she does stay in the same room with them supervised. She doesn't get along with other dogs really or rather there are a lot of dogs that simply don't like her...we see that on our walks. BUT SHE is the sweetest dog...we love her to death. MY QUESTION FINALLY is: Can we get another dog to introduce into the household to be a friend to her? What is the best breed to get? Would a baby Akita and her get along? And would it need to be male vs. female? Or is another dog just not a good idea?

Answer
well it is possibly to introduce another dog into her life but it is hard if she is aggresive but a female akita pup would probaley be the easiest because of her mothering instincts you will have to monitor her and give her the same amount of attention and slowly work the dog into her life and maybe even give treats to her when she is nice to it, so she thinks puppy=treats. I hope this helps
