Alabama/Alabama lake property

Question
Leslie -
We (my husband and I) are looking for a lakehouse in Alabama. We live in Atlanta and would prefer it to be less than 2 hrs away. Ideally, we are looking for a lake that is NOT controlled by a power company. If if is controlled, I would at least like clear water to swim in.

We are also considering using this property as a rental when we are not using. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer
Dear Karen:

I would try Lake Logan Martin. It is right off of I-20 and includes the cities of Lincoln, Pell City, and Talledega. That area is growing fast because of the Honda plant but I think you can still get good prices. I do not know if the lake is controlled by a power company. I used to swim in the lake all the time when I was little. There's a country club called Alpine Bay, I think, near Talledega. All the cities along the lake are very "small town" but some are growing. Pell City has Wal-Mart et al. Lake Logan Martin should be two hours or less from Atlanta. I would ask your Realtor for more info.

If you're interested in Pell City specifically, you could try the neighborhood Pine Harbor, where my grandparents live. It has a golf course and has a lot of nice houses along the water.

Feel free to contact me again. Good luck!

Happy 4th!
