Hi Leslie, My husband and I are planning a one month stay in February or March, 2002 to either Gulf Shores or Orange Beach.  We want a small gulf front house and wonder which town you would recommend for a quiet time with a nice beach.  Thanks!  Judy

Dear Judy:

I think Gulf Shores would be the better choice. They have miles of nothing but cute little houses right on the beach. Gulf Shores is very laid back and has plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, etc. just up Hwy. 59.

Orange Beach is a little more upscale and mostly consists of these huge, mammoth condos that are like 20 stories tall and look like really big cruise ships.

Both beaches are really nice and not very far apart. However, for just chilling on the beach in a low-key manner, I would pick Gulf Shores.

I went to Gulf Shores the weekend after Labor Day and had a wonderful time. I hope you and your husband have a great time as well.
