I heard a rumor that the song"You Oughta Know" was written about Dave Coulier, Uncle Joey from Full House..It sounds silly and kinda random, but is it true??

Thanks for taking the time to e-mail me..  I am glad to help at anytime..  Ok, this is a rumor, but has never been denied or accepted by Alanis.  She said in many interviews that she will never reveal the person behind "You Oughta Know",  so it will forever remain a mystery.  However, yes Dave Coulier was "rumored" to be "mr.duplicity" we will never know.  The reason behind the fingers pointing towards him, is she was dating him before that song was written, so the press assumes it is about him, also because she says "an older version of me"  and he was quite older.  She also dated a hockey player  Alexandre Daigle, he was rumored to be "mr.duplicity" also, but this was a recent discover, however, he's the same age as her, so that "older version" doesn't click..  So for sake of argument, you can safely assume that "You Oughta Know" is in fact about Dave Coulier, Uncle Joey from "Full House"..
