Alanis Nadine Morissette/A few Alanis Questions
Expert: Dana - 8/7/2000
QuestionHi, I`m a huge Alanis fan and I was recently in one of her concerts on the One Tour (in Ceasarea, Israel)... anyway to the point, I`ve got a few questions, some of which may be exremely stupid, so sorry for that.
1) Who is Baba? Who is Mary Jane?
2) What is `The Couch` all about, is it a real story?
3) Not so Alanis question, but: What are B-sides?
4) I`ve only heard the songs on Jaggid Little Pill, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and MTV Unplugged, but from what I saw on the net she has tons more songs like Death of Cinderella and London, where can I hear all these songs that aren`t on the discs listed above (preferebly on discs and not in MP3 format, as I really don`t know anything about MP3)?
5) Have `Alanis` and `Now is the Time` ever been released out of Canada?
Thanks,
Ophir
AnswerHello there Ophir,
That's a very unique name, I love it.. Ok, let me try to answer your questions 'bout Alanis..
1) Baba literally means father in Hindu, but it is also the name of a spirtual leader in India, that is looked upon as God in India.. Mary Jane is a pseudo name that she placed on one of her friends, the song is about her friend but indirectly relates to her, so she is singing to herself through her friend, the name is just fictional..
2) The Couch is basically about her father.. Let me quote something Alanis said about the song so you can grasp it better... ": This song was written following a conversation I had with my dad regarding his life story. I was able to see him for who he was (outside the role as my father) for what felt like the first time. It was very healing for the both of us."..
3) B-sides are song that were written after a record was released or even before but didn't make the cut.. Some are released, but most of these b-sides are just sung in concerts, with no official cd release.. Some however are placed on singles..
4)Ok to hear these "rare/b-sides" you'd have to purchase a "bootleg" which is really an illegal recording... You can find many of them on mp3.. That would be your best bet. I recommend you download WINAMP its an amp3 player.. You can go to www.winamp.com to download it.. Then to get some mp3's NAPSTER is a good place, you can get that by going to www.napster.com
5)The old albums "alanis" and "now is the time" have
recently been rereleased here in the United States.. I believe June of 2000 they were released for U.S..
Ok, so if you have any more questions feel free to write to me again.. Or you can check out my Alanis website..

Thanx again, hope I helped you,
