Question
My husb, brother, and 4 year old daughter want to drive ANC to Fairbanks Jul9-11 and are looking for a cheap place ot stay. The GoNorth Hostel has tents for $24 a person, but we'd have to carry sleeping bags. Motel 8 has $154 a night in Fairbanks. We want to drive up, stopping at Denali, then sleep near Fairbanks.  Next day, what do you suggest in Fairbanks area to see? We'd also like to hit the North Pole, (remembe the 4 year old) - how much time should we leave for that? Then drive back down to ANC by Jul 13 to fly out to Cold Bay to visit a friend. Any help you can give us with the Fairbanks leg would be helpful - must see's, places to stay, eat, etc. Thanks for your help.

*FOLLOW-UP TO MY PREVIOUS ANSWER*

Hello again Jean,

Thank you for the very nice rating. Now I fully understand why you put ANC...I would have figured that out if you also put FAI for Fairbanks. I'm in the airline business also, so I guess I should have caught on. Anyway, if you have any follow-up questions, please e-mail me directly at LASKANWLF@aol.com, and I'll see what I can do to help out, ok?

Just to let you know, I'll be very busy starting on June 21 and on, due to quite a few personal events (including a possible hiring by the FAA next week and then a possible move to Spokane), so bear with me if I don't answer your questions right away.  Thanks again!

Expertise

I am very knowledgable and experienced on where to go and what to do in ALASKA. I spent 3 years hiking and doing my wildlife and scenic photography there and can offer a multitude of traveling advice (and helpful hints) while in or traveling to Alaska.

Experience

I have traveled all over Alaska, including the end of the Aleutian Island chain, driven on every single named highway in and around Alaska (except one), climbed and camped out on Gulkana Glacier, and fished for halibut in Prince William Sound. I spent my finest hours photographing caribou, moose, grizzly, and bald eagles.
