I own a 2000 Alfa 156 2.0 selespeed that will not start when switched off after a short journey.
The car starts first time when cold but after driving a couple of miles or so and then turning the car off for a few minutes the car will not restart! I usually have to wait between 1/2 and 1 hour before it will start again.
This has been happening for about a month now and have now recently noticed that the fuel injection warning light has been coming on occasionally,so I have tried STP injection cleaner to a tank of gas hoping it may clear any debris that may be there, after using half a tank of fuel,no change yet! Was not sure if there is any connection with this problem and the warm start?
I have absolutely no idea how an automatic choke and a fuel injection system works, mechanically or electrically,or even if I am thinking along the right lines or not?
This has been a great car and have owned it for about 4 years, this is the first problem that I have ever encounted with it,so I certainly cannot complain!
Hope you can help me out.
Many thanks,
Matt
Answer By not starting do you mean the starter motor does not work or that it motors over but does not catch.
At any rate, start with cleaning the battery terminals and any ground connections you can find. Also, if work was recently done, make sure the ground wires from engine to battery and from chassis to battery are still attached.
While cleaning the battery terminals, touch them together for 10 or 20 seconds to reset the ECU.
