The alloy gearchange relay housing has corroded between itself and the nylon bushes. After carefully disconnecting the bowden cables from the linkage remove the relay housing, disassemble and clean the inside bore thoroughly. Reassemble with copper grease.

would more likely to be a seized linkage where the cables join onto the gear box.

remove battery and tray, you will see the two cables that operate your gears, spray all linkages with wd 40 then get a screwdriver or small lever and move all linkages back and forth and up and down , theright hand lever that moves up and down is usually seized, lever nit up and down spray shaft and nine times out of ten this is cured get somebody in car to move the gearlever through the gear s and bobs your .....

i did this on alfa 156, saad tid and ford galaxy all had same type of problem gear boxes all looked the same
