Question
I was wondering how you could write the equation of a line that passes through
a given point and is perpendicular to a given line.

Answer
If you have a given line such as y = mx+b, the slope of the line perpendicular to that line is -1/m.
so you have y = (-1/m)x +b
Put in the x,y values of your point to evaluate b.

If you had given me a line and a point, I could have given you the equation perpendicular to it.
