A survey asked a random sample of U.S. adults if they favored abolishing the penny. The circle graph shows the results. A total of 78% of those polled responded yes or no. The no responses (keep the penny) exceeded the yes response (abolish the penny) by 37%. Determine the percentage who responded no?

Video store A charges $5.00 to rent a video game for one week. Although only members can rent from the store, membership is free. Video store B charges only $3.50 to rent a video game for one week. Only members can rent from the store and membership is $6.00 per year. After how many video game rentals will the total amount spent at each store be the same?

You invested $10,600.00 in stocks and bonds, paying 5.1% and 7.9%, respectively. If the total interest earned for the year was $665.00, how much was invested in stocks and how much was invested in bonds

The rectangular swimming pool in the figure shown measures 40 feet by 60 feet and contains a path of uniform width around the four edges. The perimeter of the rectangle formed by the pool and the surrounding path is 236 feet. Determine the width of the path

1. Let Y = % yes and N = % no
so Y+N = 78 and N = Y+37  giving Y = 20.5% and N = 57.5%
2. 5X = 6 +3.5X so X = 4
3. Let S = amt. invested in stocks and B = amt. invested in bonds
then S+B = 10600 and 0.051S +0.079B = 665
so S = $6157 and B = $4443
4. If x = width of path, then 2(60+2x+40+2x) = 236 and x = 4.5 feet
5. I = E/(R+r)
6. R1 = RR2/(R2-R)
