Answer
It took me a little while to figure out that your symbol O with two dots over it meant a square root, and ^3 meant a cube root.  It would be a lot easier, and clearer to write a square root as x^1/2,  a cube root as x^1/3 and a fourth root as x^1/4.  Therefore, your first question would be written 12(40^1/2) = 24(10^1/2)
