Question
Your brother has $2000 saved for vacation. His airplane ticket is $637. Write and solve an inequality to find how much he can spend for everything else.

Answer
He had $2000 originally.
He then spent $637 on a plane ticket.
Doing the subtrraction, he realized how much he had left.

Split up what he spent as $600, $30, and $7.
See, $2000 - $600 = $1400.
The next one is $1400 - $30 = $1370.
The last one is $1370 = $7 = $1363.

That may seem backwards, but it is really frontwards.
After doing it for awhile, sometimes it is easier to do.
