Question
I am supposed to add and simplify by collecting like radical terms if possible:

6 sqrt 45 + 9sqrt 80

please help

Answer
It is known that 45 = 3*3*5.  That looks like there are 2 3's there, so √45 = √(3*3)√5 = 3√5.
80 = 2*2*2*2*5, so √80 = √(2*2*2*2*5) = √(2*2*2*2)√5 = 2*2√5 = 4√5.

The problem is then 6(3√5) + 9(4√5) = 18√5 + 36√5 = 54√5.
