Question
41-8m=57
-7x+6y-6x

Answer
Subtract 41 from both sides of 41-8m=57 and get -8m = 57-41 = 16.
Divide -8m = 16 by -8 and get m = -16/8 = -2.

Since -7x and -6x are both in terms of x, add them together.
Since -7 + -6 = -(7+6) = -13, the result of this is -13x + 6y.

If the 2nd - sign were and equal, so -7x + 6y = -6x,
7x could be added to both sides, giving 6y = x.
With two variables, however, we need two independent equations to find a solution.
