Question
7 men can do a piece of in 12 days how many men will be required to do double the work in 8 days

Answer
If you take M as the number of men and D as the number of days,
it is known that MD = K, where K is a constant.  In this case, K = 7*12 = 84.

If D is changed to 8, solve for M.  You get 8M = 84, so M = 84/8 = 21/8.
Now you can't get 1/2 a man, so hire one of the men only 1/2 of the time.
