Question
How to you write an equation of a line that is parallel to a given line and passes through a point? Perpendicular?

Answer
One standard equation for a line is y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.  Any parallel line will have the same m but different b.  Put the values for a given point into the equation and solve for the new b.  A perpendicular line will have the slope
-1/m.
Again, put in the values for a given point and solve for the new b.
