QUESTION: Tim and tom mix 2 kinds of feed for dog food they wish to make 22 pounds of feed worth .44 per pound by mixing one kind worth .22 per pound with another worth .50 per pound how many pounds of the cheaper kind should they use in the mix round to the nearest whole number.
2- x+4y= 44
-4+2y=4 I have to use the graphing method and substitution and elimination on all kinds of problems but I don't understand or grasp the concept put this here eliminate this move here it is too complicated for me. Thanks
AnswerThat's an easy problem.
Let x = lb. of 0.22/lb feed and y = lb. of 0.50/lb feed
x+y = 22 and 0.22x+0.50y = 22(0.44)
So you substitute from the 1st. eq. into the 2nd to get
0.22x +0.50(22-x) = 9.68 so x = 4.7 lb or 5 (rounded to the nearest whole number)
