Question
If Amy Spends her entire allowance she can afford 6 candy bars and 6 comic books a week. She could also just afford 10 candy bars and 4 comic books a week. The price of the candy bar is 40 cents. What is Amy's weekly allowance? What is the price of the comic book?

Thanks a million!

Answer
The price of candy bars is 40 cents.
That means that 6 candy bars is $2.40 and 10 candy bars is $4.

The problem states that the cost of 6 candy bars and 6 comic books is the same as
10 candy bars and 4 comic books.

Let x be the price of a comic book.

Putting in the values, you get $2.40 + 6x = $6.00 + 4x.
Add -4x - $2.40 to both sides and get 2x = $3.60.

Divide by 2 and get x.
