Question
how to solve this? (3x-16) + (4x-8) = 60

Answer
The parenthesis can be dropped since both of them are added.
The result is 3x - 16 + 4x - 8 = 60.

Now on the left side, 3x + 4x is 7x and -16 - 8 is -24, so the equation can be rewritten as
7x - 24 = 60.

Adding 24 to both sides gives 7x = 84.

Dividing both sides by 7 gives x = 84/7 = 12, so x = 12.
