Question
hi this is maybe a simple question.
Express the fact that x differs from 2 by less than 1/2 as an inequality involving a absolute value. solve for x.
ok after hours and hours i got the answer, the problem here is I didn't know that the expression "x differs form 2" = x-2,  and  "by less that 1/2" = x-2 < 1/2. Can you tell me any website where i can  get information about this kind of word problems? that will help me alot. Thank you very much!
I'm now in MATH 207 Calculus , and for question like this one, i don't want to get a C or D , so please help me. yes, English is not my first language. *sigh*

Answer
I don't know any web sites but the statement that "x differs from 2 by less than 1/2" can be expressed as you did by x-2 < 1/2 but also could be 2-x < 1/2 since x could be larger or smaller than 2.  I can only help but showing you how to work problems.
