Question
caterer charge a fix cost to prepare dinner for 100 people and an add'l cost for ea person served. the cost for 100 people is 750 & for 150 people it is 1050. how do i setup and solve for caterer fixed cost and cost per student served.

Answer
Take ($1050-$750)/(150-100) = $300/50 = 6, and that is the slope.
At 100 people, that would account for $600, but the cost is $750,
so the equation must be 6x + 150 where x us the number of people.

To check this, at 150 people, the cost would be $6(150) + $150 = $900 + $150 = $1050,
and that checks with what they gave.
