Algebra/how to do answer a 1 variable linear equation

Question
is there an easier way to answer a 1 variable linear equation

Answer
Lets say the variable is x.

Get rid of any parnethesis by multiplying them by whatever factor is in front.

Reduce the equation to ax + b = cx + d.

Adding -cx - b to both sides gives ax - cx = d - b.

Factoring out the x on the left side gives (a-c)x = d - b.

Dividing both sides by (a-c) gives x = (d-b)/(a-c).

That's about as easy as it gets for an unknown number of constant and x values on both sides of the equation.
