Question
I need the rule for the following function table:

 X = 1  Y = -1
 X = 2  Y = 1
 X = 3  Y = 3
 X = 4  Y = 5
 X = 5  Y = 7

Answer
Each time X increases by 1, Y increase by 2.
That gives us X = 2Y to start with.

From this equation, we see that the points would be
1   2
2   4
3   6
4   8
5  10.

Noting that Y is always predicted as 3 too high,
the equation can be seen to really be X = 2Y - 3.
