Question
what happens if n in a function is odd and when n is even?

Answer
When the function is odd, the direction it goes when the function goes to ±infinity is positve in one direction and negative in the other.   If there is a positive constant in front of the  highest power, then it goes from the bottom left on a graph to the upper right.
If there is a negative constant in front of the highest power, then it goes from a positive y value where x is negative to a negative y value when x is positive.

If the function is even, it will have the sign of the coefficient of the largest power as x goes off to ±infinity.
