Question
A manufacturer of bird feeders cuts spacers from a tube that is 13  1/3 (mixed fraction) inches long, How many spacers can be cut from the tube if each spacer must be 2/3 (fraction) inch thick?

A. the estimated answer is ____ spacers
B. the exact answer is _____ spacers

If 2 sweaters cost $24.98, how much would 7 sweaters cost?

Answer
It looks like a rough estimate would be somewhat over 13, since each spacer takes less than an inch to do, so a little more than 17 or 18 should be in there.

Multiply 13 by 3 to get how many thirds in 13.
Add 1 more to get the number of 1/3's in 13 1/3.
Divide this by 2 (since each spacer needs 2/3).

If 2 sweaters cost $24.98, then 7 sweaters would be ...
Well, given the cost of 2, divide by 2 to get the cost of 1.
Multiply this number by 7 to get the cost of 7.
