19.) Find the value for h when v = 48 and r = 4: V= πr2h/3

21.) Write an algebraic expression and solve the equation for: Eight less than four times a number is the same as eight times the sum of the number and two.  What is the number?

22.) Jim's weekly pay is two thirds of Alicia's.  Together they earn $800 per week.  What is each person's weekly pay?

23.)At the homecoming football game, Senior Class Officers sold slices of pizza for $.75 each and hamburgers for $1.35 each.  They sold 40 more slices of pizza than hamburgers, and sales totaled $292.50.  How many slices of pizza did they sell?

24.)If one side of a square is increased by 8 cm and an adjacent side is decreased by 2 cm, a rectangle is formed whose perimeter is 40 cm.  Find the length of a side of the square.

25.)The sum of the measures of the angles of a pentagon is 540 degrees.  The degree of measures of the angles of a pentagon are consecutive even integers.  Find the measure of the largest angle.

26.) In a walk-a-thon to raise money for charity, Elisa walked a certain distance at 5 mph and then jogged twice that distance at 8 mph.  Her total time walking and jogging was 2 hours and 15 minutes.  How far did Elisa get?

27.) Interest earned = Amount invested · Rate of interest. Larry has an annual return of $213 from $3000 invested at simple interest, some at 5% and the rest at 8%.  How much is invested at each rate?

28.)A triangle has a perimeter of 29 cm.  The sides have lengths, in centimeters, that are consecutive odd integers.  What is the length of the longest side?

29.)A school cafeteria sells milk at 25 cents per carton and salads at 45 cents each.  One week the total sales for these items were $1,322.50.  How many salads were sold that week?

30.)If 18 is decreased by the sum of a number and 6, the result is 4 less than 3 times the number.  Find the number.

35.)A collection of 30 coins worth $5.50 consists of nickels, dimes, and quarters. There are twice as many dimes as nickels. How many quarters are there?

Answer
4) x = 9
15) H = 2A/B
16) y = (c-ax)/b
17) y = 5d/(6c)
18) r = 5.09
19) h = 2.86
21) x = -6
22) A = 480, J = 320
23) P(0.75)+(P-40)(1.35) = 292.50 so P = 165
24) x = 13
25) 112 degrees
26) x/5 +2x/8 = 2.25 so x = 5 and total distance = 15 miles
27) x(0.05) +(3000-x)(0.08) = 213 so x = $900 at 5%, leaving $2100 at 8%
28) not possible
29) If M = cartons of milk and S = no. of salads, 0.25M+0.45S = 1322.50
This is an indeterminate equation since you have two unknowns and only one equation.
There is more than one solution.  One solution is S = 2930 and M = 16
30) x = 4
32) v = [S+0.5gt^2]/t
34) If v = velocity of one car and v+30 = velocity of the other car, then
(v+v+30)t = 1200 and you have another indeterminate equation.  If v = 15, then t = 20 hours;
If v = 35, then t = 12 hours
35) N+D+Q = 30, D = 2N and 0.05N +0.10D +0.25Q = 5.50 so Q = 18
