Algebra/Undefined Correlation

Question
Hi!

Could you please give me an example of a situation in which
the correlation of two sets of data is undefined?

Thanks a lot!!!

Leah

Answer
An undefined correlation is one in which the data would plot with points making a vertical line.

For example, take the set of point (x,y) to be
(1,4), (1,7), and (1,14).

Here, the correlation between x and y is undefined.

I believe if the correlation is undefined,
the variance of one of the variables is 0.
