Question
A plumber charged $110 for a three hour job and $160 for a five hour job. At this rate, how much would he charge for an eight - hour job?

Answer
The costs are 110 for 3 hours and 160 for 5 hours.  If the difference in money is looked at, that is the cost for the additional time spent.  The difference in money is (160-110) = $50.
The difference in time is (5-3) = 2 hours.

The makes the hourly rate $50/(2 hours) = $25/hour.
