Question
5x+2y=7. Solve for y

Answer
The first thiing to do is isolate the expression with y, so subtract 5x from both sides.
This gives 2y = 7 - 5x.

The next thing to do is to divide by the multiplier, so divide both sides by 2.
This gives y = (7-5x)/2.  This could also be written y = 3.5 - 2.5x.
