Question
only 2/5 of the students doubted. if 600 students were non doubters, how many students were there in all?

Answer
If 2/5 of the students doubted, that means that 3/5 of the students didn't doubt.
It is given that 3/5 of the students = 600 students.
Multiply both sides by 5/3 and get the entire student body = (5/3)600.
Now 1/3 of 600 is 200, and 5*200 = 1000, and that's how many students there were in all.
