Question
if 57 people use 13,224 cans in one year, how many cans are used in a city which has a population of 1,963,000

Answer
Take (1,963,000 people)(13,224 can/57 people) = x cans since people/people cancels.

Now 13,224/57 = 232, so each person uses 232 can per year.  Muliply 1,963,000 by 232,
and that's the answer.  That comes out to be 455,416,000 cans per year.

In any question like this, always put the units where they go and
the numbers will follow.
