Question
I have totally forgoten how to do this 2x+6x+9=0

Answer
If that is 2x + 6x, then 2 and 6 are both timex x.
That means it can be written as (2+6)x + 9 = 0.
Now 2+6 = 8, so we have 8x + 9 = 0.

Subtracting 9 from both sides gives 8x = -9.
Dividing both sides by 8 gives x = -9/8.

That can be rewritten as x = -1 1/8 or x = -1.125.

Putting that back in the original problem got x gives -2.25 - 6.75 + 9 = -9 + 9 = 0.
