Question
The perimeter of a NBA-sized basketball court is 288 ft. The length is 44 ft longer than the width. Find the dimensions of the court.

Answer
The court has a length that is 44' longer that the width, so L = W + 44.

The perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width, so P = 2W + 2L.
The perimeter is 288, we have 288 = 2W + 2L.
Dividing this equation by 2 gives 144 = W + L.
Since L is 44 over W, it can be seen that L = 50+44 = 94 and W=50.

Checking, the total perimeter is 188 + 100 = 288,
and 94 is 44 greater than 50.
