Question
45-[4-2y-4(y+7)] = -4(1+3y)-[4-3(y+2)-2(2y-5)] having trouble getting the answer to this problem.

Answer
Eliminate the innermost (round) brackets first

45-[4-2y-4(y+7)] = -4(1+3y)-[4-3(y+2)-2(2y-5)] =

45-[4-2y-4y-28] = -4-12y-[4-3y-6-4y+10] =

45-[-6y-24]=-4-12y-[-7y+8] =

now eliminate the square brackets

45+6y+24 = -4-12y+7y-8

bring y terms to the left and everything else to the right

6y+12y-7y = -4-8-45-24

combine like terms

11y = -81

y = -11/81
