The average of six numbers is 8. What seventh number must be added to increase the average to ten?

If the average is 8 and there are 6 numbers, then the sum of these 6 numbers must be 8*6=48.

If the average is 10 and the are 7 numbers, then the sum of these 7 numbers is 10*7=70.

To make the sum go from 48 to 70, in one additional number, that number would need to be

70-48=22.
