Question
three months ago the tennis pro shop ordered 150 tennis racquets and 50 pairs of tennis shoes for $14,000 and last week they ordered 80 racquets and 30 tennis shoe at the cost of $ $7,650.
What is the cost of a tennis racquets and a pair of tennis shoes to the proprietor??

Answer
Let x=the cost per tennis racquet, and y=the cost per pair of tennis shoes.

Thus, we get:
1. 150x + 50 y = $14,000
and
2. 80x + 30y = $7,650

We can simplify each... 1. divide through by 50, 2. divide through by 10, to get:
1. 3x + y = $280
and
2. 8x + 3y = $765

Solve these for x & y to get x=$75 and y=$55.

Hence, a tennis racquet costs $75 and the shoes cost $55.
