Question
Hello:

Is it possible to determine the averages for fractions? For example, what is the simple average for 1/3 and 2/7?

I thank you for your reply.

Answer
The average for fractions can be calculated in the same manner as the average for any numbers.

The average of n numbers is equal to:

Average = (Sum of the n numbers)/n

Here, we have two numbers so n = 2

Average = (1/3 + 2/7)/2

Multiply the first fraction by 7/7 and the second fraction by 3/3 to get a common denominator.

Average = (7/21 + 6/21)/2

Now we can add the numerators since we have the same denominator in both fractions.

Average = (13/21)/2

Average = 13/42

Let me know if you have any questions.
