Question
Hello:

How is the answer determined for the following?

10x - 14 = 3x

Answer: x = 2

Answer
You can subtract or add the same thing to both sides of an equation without changing the result.  So you add 14 to each side to get 10x = 14+3x
Now subtract 3x from each side to get 7x = 14
You can also multiply or divide both sides by the same thing so you divide both sides by 7 to get x = 2
