Question
In baseball a player's batting average in the ratio of hits to the number of times he or she has batted. Thus, if the player has an average of .300, it means he or she got 300 hits in 1000 at bats. In order to have an average of .300, how many hits would the batter have to get in 400 times a bat?

thanks alot for your help!

Answer
To get a batting average of of .300 , you need the number of hits divided by the times at bat to equal .3 (the extra zeros at the end aren't important, .3 is fine)
In your example , let x be the number of hits needed. Then x/400=.3
x=(.3)(400)
x=120

He needs 120 hits.

Another way to see this is to say .3 is three out of ten.
400 is 40 times 10
so 3 times 40 is 120 hits

I hope this helps
