Question
A man goes to the bank to cash a check.  The teller "interchanges" the amounts...that is, he gives the number of dollars that should have been cents, and the number of cents that should have been dollars.  After leaving the bank and spending $3.50, the man discovers he has twice the amount of the original check left.  How much was the original check?

Answer
I worked this problem when I was in high school 50 some years ago.  However, it's not possible to work it with the conditions you mentioned.  The teller reversed two of the digits, not the dollars and cents.  The original check was
$16.30 and the teller gave him $36.10.
