Question
hi...i received an adjustment check today for $ 270,744.79.  it consists of two components:  X days paid at $ 16.07 per day, and Y days at $ 7.13 per day.  how can i solve for X and Y??

thanks
marc

Answer
Hi Marc,

To solve this, you really need one more equation.  For instance if you knew the total number of days, you could easily solve it.  Example

x + y = number of days

y = number of days - x

16.07x + 7.13y = 270,744.79

plug in (number of days - x) in for y and solve.  Then solve for x using the first equation.

Without knowing the total number of days, there could be several combinations of x any y pairs that are valid.  For example, say the total is $100 and you get x days at $5 and y days at $10.  This could be 10 days at 5 and 5 days at $10, or 18 days at $5 and 1 day at $10.

I hope this helped you.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Best of luck.
