Question
I'm twelve and my parents and i cant figure this out! can you help me find an equation that will that will solve the problem- if two hot dogs and 1 hamburger cost $3.39 and 3 hot dogs and 3 hamburgers cost $6.57 how much does one hot dog cost?

Answer
ok its a simple system of equations

x = hotdogs
y = hamburgers

2x + y = 3.39
3x + 3y = 6.57

now just solve.

2x + y = 3.29
y = -2x + 3.29

3x + 3y = 6.57
3x + 3(-2x + 3.29)= 6.57
3x - 6x + 9.87 = 6.57
-3x + 9.87 = 6.57
-3x = -3.3
x = 1.1

which means each hot dog is $1.10.  Hope this makes sence.
