3y-y+2y-5=7-2y+5 please explain it step by step thanks

Answer
First of all you combine terms to get 4y-5 = 12-2y
You can add or subtract the same thing from both sides of an equals sign without changing the answer.  So you add 2y to both sides to get 6y-5 = 12
Then add 5 to each side to get 6y = 17
Now you can divide each side by 6 to get y = 17/6
