Question
solve for u  u^2=-14+10u

Answer
Hi Tara,

u^2 = -14 + 10u

subtract (-14 + 10u) from both sides

u^2 - 10u + 14 = 0

Quadradic equation

(-b +- SQRT(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)
a = 1, b = -10, c = 14

(10 +- SQRT(100 - 4*1*14))/2

(10 +- SQRT(44))/2

we can write SQRT(44) = SQRT(11*2^2) = 2*SQRT(11)

(10 +- 2SQRT(11))/2

divde the numerator by 2
(5 +- SQRT(11))

So, the answers are 5 + SQRT(11) and 5 - SQRT(11)
