Question -
i'm currently an expert, and recently noticed where others can comment on previous answers; do experts have a choice in the matter, and if so, how does it work?
Answer -
We are currently debating 2 ways of giving experts control over added answers:
This first is similar to the "Allow Ratings" option in your account. We would allow volunteers to disable the "Add to This Answer" link in all their published questions.
The second is to allow volunteers to remove added answers on a case-by-case basis. This involves adding a delete checkbox in the feedback list that you access from your expert home page.
Of course, we could also just to leave it the way it is now, since so far, no expert has asked us to remove a user's comment.
But since this is your site, not ours, which way would you prefer?
ideally, i'd like to see BOTH options available, but if having to choose, i'd go with the "all or nothing" approach, unless the 2d was made more convenient by having an "allow viewer feedback" box next to the"make private" box on each question...my feeling is "too many cooks spoil the broth"..you already have too many so called "experts", now you open it up for EVERYONE to offer their advice, regardless of qualification, even to the point of deriding the experts' answers..then the expert may want to comment, and it theoretically could go on and on; the questioner, if LOOKING for other opinions, can ask the same question to other experts in the same category, hence the name "ALL experts"; but i for one don't need my answers critiqued by people that many times have no idea what they're talking about..
AnswerI've looked over the added answers in your category and you're right. Most of them suck. Thanks for alerting us to this. I am accelerating the roll-out of the "all or nothing" feature now. It should be functional in a couple of weeks.
Hope this helps
and thanks for volunteering,
